Kitty O'Neil was a woman of many talents. She was a stuntwoman, a race car driver, and a daredevil who achieved several world records throughout her career. Born on March 24, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was deaf from infancy. However, that never stopped her from pursuing her dreams.
Kitty started her career as a stuntwoman in the early 1970s, appearing in popular TV shows such as "Wonder Woman," "The Bionic Woman," and "The Six Million Dollar Man." She was also the stunt double for actresses such as Lindsay Wagner and Farrah Fawcett. In 1976, Kitty broke the women's land-speed record, driving a rocket-powered vehicle at an average speed of 512 mph (824 km/h) over a measured mile.
But that wasn't enough for Kitty. She continued to push the limits of what was possible. In 1979, she set another record by becoming the fastest woman in the world on water. She piloted a jet-powered boat, reaching a top speed of 275 mph (443 km/h) on California's Lake Tahoe. Her need for speed didn't stop there. In 1980, Kitty broke yet another record, this time for the fastest female motorcycle rider. She reached a top speed of 229 mph (369 km/h) on a rocket-powered bike.
Kitty's accomplishments were not limited to the world of stunts and records. She also competed in auto racing, driving in events such as the Baja 1000 and the Mint 400. She was a stunt driver for the famous movie "Smokey and the Bandit II," where she performed an incredible stunt involving a rocket-powered car.
